Lisa Gizas

Mrs. Gizas graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a B.S. degree in Microbiology and holds a Master's Degree from Rutgers University in Biology.  She worked in academic research for several years at the Garden State Cancer Center (breast and colorectal cancer) and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (neuroscience).  At the same time, she taught Microbiology and Human Biology at the County College of Morris for 13 years.  She joined West Morris Central High School in 2012 to teach Biology and Advanced Placement Biology.  In 2013 and 2014 her Advanced Placement Biology classes were each awarded $5000 BASF Science Education Grants, the second one of which led to original research being published in the National High School Journal of Science.  Mrs. Gizas is an active member of the Learning Disabilities Association of New Jersey and regularly integrates their best practices in teaching to assist all students in the class with organization, long-range planning, note taking, study skills, and test-taking strategies.  Mrs. Gizas is at the forefront of technology at West Morris Central, with regular use of Haiku Learning and Google Drive for students.
